Gingerbread Cookies

  • 1/2 c butter, softened
  • 1/2 c packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 c water
  • 1/3 c molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 4 c all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • white or colored frostings
1. Beat butter and brown sugar in large bowl with electric mixer at medium speed
until creamy. Add water, molasses and egg; beat until blended. Add flour, baking soda, ginger, allspice, cinnamon and cloves; beat until well blended. Wrap dough tightly with plastic wrap; refrigerate about 2 hours or until firm.


2. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease cookie sheets. Roll out dough on lightly
floured surface with lightly floured rolling pin to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutter.  Place cutouts 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheets.

3. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until set. Cool 1 minute on cookie sheets. Remove to
wire racks to cool completely. Decorate with frostings as desired. Store in airtight
containers.
