Butter and Cream Cheese Cookies

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 package (3 ounces) cream cheese
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 1/4 cups sifted regular all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder

In a mixing bowl cream together butter and cream cheese; gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy.  Beat in egg yolk and vanilla.  Sift together flour, salt and baking powder; gradually add to creamed mixture.  With cookie press form cookies on ungreased baking sheet.  Bake 12-15 minutes in preheated 350 degree oven.  Remove to wire rack to cool.  Makes about 8 dozen.

Note:  Before baking dough may be tinted different colors or sprinkled with colored sugar.  You can also roll the cookies into balls if you do not wish to use a cookie press.
